Our Mission
“235” refers to Section 235 of the Constitution. It recognises the possibility of self-determination for a community with a shared culture and language, within the overarching right to self-determination of the entire South African people, and as determined by national legislation. It therefore does not automatically grant self-government; Parliament must first enact this in legislation.

Who We Are
Building the Future Through Canton Communities
Our vision is rooted in the development of strong, self-reliant canton towns—locally governed communities designed to promote stability, economic growth, and cultural preservation. By empowering these towns with greater autonomy, we aim to create environments where people can take ownership of their future, strengthen local economies, and build safe, sustainable spaces for generations to come. Through cooperation between canton towns, this model encourages peaceful coexistence, shared progress, and a practical path toward long-term prosperity
Our Goal
The Self-Determination Initiative of South Africa (SBSA) is a community initiative that aims to establish self-governance through a system similar to the Swiss cantonal model. This model enables communities to manage their own affairs — with respect for culture, economic responsibility and national unity.
